Residential Services

Group Living

Each of our community residences houses four to eight people in a safe and supportive, yet challenging, environment. These homey, real-life settings allow people to learn and apply the practical skills of daily living. A number of our residences are adapted for people with accessibility needs. In addition, some residences specialize in serving young adults, older adults or those who benefit from behavioral supports and from more intensive supervision. Alternatives' dedicated staff gears its training and support toward the personal needs and preferences of each resident. By design, our community residences are transitional in nature. Therefore, from the time an individual enters the program, he or she is encouraged to think about future goals, to develop the readiness to achieve them and to work actively on recovery.

Supported Living

Through our Supported Living program, individuals gain the opportunity to live successfully in their own apartments. Some of these settings provide intensive assistance and training and are considered transitional, while other supported-living settings are much less intensive and are considered permanent.

People in this program either live alone or share an apartment with a friend while receiving intermittent supports by a team of visiting counselors. The frequency, duration and time of day _ seven days per week _ of these visits can be adjusted as a person's needs and circumstances change. The purpose of the program is to develop over time in each person the skills, community connections and friendships that foster successful community living and recovery.
