Supported Education and Employment Services

Helping people to find and keep jobs as well as further their education where needed is the primary goal of Alternatives' supported education and employment services (SEE) program. SEE's options allow its participants to choose, obtain and keep work that matches their skills, job readiness and preferences. This comprehensive career development program includes vocational assessment, career counseling, job matching, diverse on-the-job training experiences and competitive job placement. Our approach is based on sound research and emphasizes four important factors of success in the workplace. These key elements are: possessing necessary skills, understanding one's job expectations, integrating performance feedback, and getting along with co-workers. SEE permits people to improve their education by obtaining a high school equivalency diploma (GED), by pursuing two- or four-year college programs or by enriching their lives through adult education classes. Career specialists guide people to choose the employment or educational strategies that will optimize their long-term success.

Volunteerism

Volunteer experience is an effective way for people to develop or strengthen practical job and social skills while making a valued contribution to their local community. For that reason, we encourage and assist people who are between jobs, or who work part time, to participate in a wide variety of volunteer efforts. Over time, many of these experiences have led to employment, development of friendships and increased civic involvement.
