Community Life for People with Disabilities
Alternatives' unique model, Community Life for People with Disabilities, involves breaking down long-standing attitudinal barriers facing the disabled, bringing people of all abilities together, and building new relationships throughout our communities. This model encourages us all to take a closer look at what we refer to as our "community," and it attempts to engage all citizens in order to ensure a quality of life for our most vulnerable.
This concept of collaboration posits that inclusive activities, as opposed to isolating ones, are the best way to help individuals with disabilities and, in so doing, to strengthen the very fabric of our society.
The three most significant measures of success of Community Life are real jobs, real homes, and real relationships. These fundamental needs can only be realized through a supportive, involved community that provides opportunities for people with disabilities through meaningful employment, loving homes and enduring friendships.
We invite you to view a variety of community life profiles to better understand the benefits for all involved in community life for people with disabilities.
Alternatives' concept is that the hosting and sponsoring of inclusive community-building activities will bring people of all abilities together, which will assist in forming and nurturing lasting friendships. We invite you to join us – be it by attending an event, volunteering your help, or making a donation. Together, we can make a world of difference, one person at a time, community by community.
