Staff Development
We at Alternatives are committed to providing training as an important part of every employee's professional development. This philosophy and our investment in training results in our employees providing quality services to people that we support.
Within the first three months of becoming employed, full-time staff will participate in a comprehensive week-long Orientation program. This is designed to deliver competency based curricula to new employees. The following is a sample of some topics offered:
- CPR and First Aid
- Human Rights
- Communication Skills Series
- Diversity
- Defensive Driving
- Fire Safety
- Infection Control
Orientation is the foundation of your learning. Building of your knowledge will expand throughout your career at Alternatives. Your future training will be determined by you along with your supervisor. Together you will develop a customized training plan that meets your needs.
Alternatives is dedicated to providing maximum learning with an opportunity to practice newly learned skills in a safe environment before applying it daily in jobs.
We also provide opportunities for our employees to attend external trainings as well as offer agency wide training events. Alternatives believe in supporting and developing people who have an interest in becoming co-trainers.
We strive to offer learning experiences that are interactive, job related and applicable. This ensures that our workforce is both competent and confident, and that our staff will have a positive impact on the people we serve.
